BRIEF HISTORY OF KOGI STATE VIGILANTE SERVICE

  1. The bill for a law that established the Kogi state vigilante service was signed into law on 24th November 2014. The Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello noticed that the various vigilante groups operated differently without positive objective, sense of focus, and command and control. He merged them together under one umbrella without political party, tribal or religious affiliations. Consequently, a team led by the comptroller of vigilantes went round all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and recruited prospective vigilantes. Accordingly, a total of 3,700 officers and members were trained from 2017 to 2019.
